Cupra Born Effectively Revealed Ahead Of Its Debut On May 25

Cupra has released a revealing teaser video of their upcoming Born EV.

Previewed by the el-Born concept, the production model will be unveiled on May 25th and look virtually identical to the study.

The company didn’t go into many specifics, but the road-going model is essentially a Cupra-ified Volkswagen ID.3. As a result, the hatchback has an edgier design with angular headlights and a more aggressive air intake that is largely blocked off.

The sides are less dramatic as they borrow heavily from the Volkswagen playbook. As you can see, there’s a familiar greenhouse and similar bodywork. That being said, the Born adopts sportier side skirts and a ‘floating’ roof curtesy of a blacked out rear pillar.

More importantly, Cupra provided the first glimpse of the hatchback’s rear end that features an angular tailgate and a full-width light bar.

“We’ve emphasized the width of the car with a horizontal light signature, and combined it with a very pronounced diffuser, which increases the car’s efficiency and aerodynamics,” said Cupra’s head of design, Jorge Diez. “We know that electrification has to go hand in hand with efficiency, and in this respect, the team has combined the two in a perfect way.”

Besides showing the exterior, Cupra released a couple of interior images. One shows textured trim and bronze accents, while the other reveals a slender center console covered in upholstery and even more bronze.

Cupra is keeping specifications under wraps, but the model will be based on the MEB platform and the El-Born was equipped with a 77 kWh battery pack as well as a rear electric motor. The latter presumably develops 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS), just like the one in the ID.3.
